Chicket
Excuse the neologism for women's cricket.
So we wandered down to Junction Oval to watch the cricket.
I realised that the last time I had been to a cricket match was at the Adelaide Oval, and possibly involved Ray Illingworth! If I am correct with that, it was 52 years ago. I may have taken daughter to a Shield Match once - if so, very early 1980s only 42 years ago.
A few things have changed.
The score board is a couple of big screens - one shown above. They give replays and a lot more information (good). Linked in to the 3rd umpire system: I am mixed about this - possibly gives more accurate decisions, but if the 3rd Umpire has to watch a replay 4 times it delays the game a lot and to my mind is an iffy decision.
The worst thing was constant playing of loud, shite noise possibly within a dictionary definition of music. Yuccck. I presume this is meant to attract youf to the games. Fail: Frances and I were probably a bit above mean age, but not by much. It was better when we moved out of the Warnie stand ...
... to the outer at the Fitzroy side of the ground as the racket was more dispersed. I cannot imagine how foul a BBL game must be.
While online tickets were still listed at $5 we, as seniors were slugged $15 (getting a $5 discount).
The play was quite interesting with Ellyse Perry at the crease but after she left the English spinners got busy and cleaned up the rest. IMO the damage was done by Alice Capsley - a chunky spin bowler built on the Warne line - who got rid of Perry and a couple of other middle order batters to return 3/22. We left before the end of that innings. It seems the Poms were also ungood against good bowling and lost by about 24 runs. A few snaps of play follow.
This seems to be the best scorecard I can find the following morning: https://www.theguardian.com/.../england-women-cricket-team.
