Albert Park Lake North

 On the 14th I went for a bird-walk along the Northern Bank of Albert Park Lake.  It was quite successful with 26 species recorded.  The yellow track is my path to the Toorak Rd tram stop.

Only one family of cygnets, near Mud Island.
Lots of Australian White Ibis (estimate adding various groups 370).  These are onthe Southern side of Gunn Island.

I found another 3 in the Northern Ponds
Swamphen chick and Stilt
Swamphen Chick and parent.  An Ibis took a swipe at the chick and the adult Swamphen retaliated quite fiercely.
I think I saw 2 Great Crested Grebes in different places.  I was surprised at how quickly this one swam about. A fuzzy shot but shows the size of the Grebe cf the Coot
Red-rumped Parrot at Yacht Club.
Big family (22 Ducklings)  of Australian Wood Ducks.  They weren't fussed by people walking along the path, just past the Yacht Club.

Sparrows-R-Us

 A birding friend recently sighting a Eurasian Tree Sparrow (ETS) in Woolworths at Altona.  This frustrated me as I had recently seen a sparrow in the store but had assumed it was a House Sparrow.  So today I went back loaded for Passerine, as ETS would be an addition to my Australian List.   I wandered up and down the aisles and round and round the store for 40 minutes.  Despite my atypical attire, equipment and behaviour no fellow shoppers queried me and security staff were not deployed.  Perhaps everyone assumed I was on day release from Collingwood?  They didn't even question me in the canned vegetable aisle - which is where I think my friend got her tick - when I played a little call back .  After about 40 minutes I left, pausing only to pay for some groceries. A birdy walk at Albert Park

 I hadn't been to Albert Park for a while and having paid for a tram ride to town and back in the morning it would cost me nothing to ride the rail to MSAC.  Well, nothing except a lot more time than expected and a rise in blood pressure.  The 16 tram took forever to arrive at 505 and then, at St Kilda Junction, the driver announced that as he was running late he was avoiding St Kilda and going along Dandenong Rd.  So half the passengers, including me got off and climbed on another #16 which was following. The #96 to get to MSAC turned up on Fitzroy quite quickly. Here is the route of my birding walk. The driving range was well covered with balls, but no indication how many shots were birdies. A BAD visit to the WTP

 On 10 April 4 of us from the Bird a Day (BAD) group visited the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee.  Clockwise are Elke (who had the selfie skills to get the snap); me (who had failed miserably at the same task) ; Faye; and Val. After meeting at the toilet block we decided that the best place to start was the Crake pond in the T-section ponds, so headed off down Point Wilson Rd.  About halfway down the road we stopped to check out 8 Brolgas grazing in a paddock.  This gave an incidental sheet . On the drive we had discussed recording strategy.  Faye was just doing one list for the whole visit while I was planning to do separate lists for each (loosely defined) main area we visited adding any between sightings to the incidental list. Once on the way with Elke leading and Faye accepting the role of  Official Gate Closer we stopped soon after entering the T-section recording a good bunch of birds in the first pond  including Black-fronted Dotterel.
