Lake Boga Day 3 - Shepparton redeems itself
Our last visit to Shepparton was a mess as we arrived at school pick up time, having driven from Robe SA (about 580km, so no too fresh). This time we had an uneventful 200 km from Lake Boga. Our aims were the Art Museum and the Painted Cows. This (Angel Cow 2) wasn't the first we saw but I think it is one of the oldest (although they have no details on the website).

The next two were the first, as we turned on to the Midlands Highway.
On getting to the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) we found cows being used for advertising purposes. Not surprisingly this is a Brown Cow.
Skeleton Cow and friends.
We called in to the library and not surprisingly found more cows. (They were selling surplus books for a gold coin: I bought a John Krakauer work "Where Men Win Glory" - I'll do a review when I have finished it.)These banners were promoting the Shepparton Show (using a Sheep image).
Back to SAM. This is the view over Victoria Park Lake from the 4th floor.
The third floor had a community collection which was quite clever.
There was an app to vote for one's favourite. Both of us picked this one.
This was titled "A Pastoral Scene" and was notable for the 'card' with detailed commentary about how it was restored. Hopefully that is readable in the following image.
Our final stop was the huge War Memorial outside the Council Chambers. First is a panorama of the whole memorial.
A focus on the left edge - roses in front of a helicopter in Afghanistan.
The central part.
The title of this was "A Helping Hand". From the website: The Helping Hand, by pre-eminent Australian artist Charles Web Gilbert (1867-1925), depicts Private John Raws reaching down to help his brother from a trench on the Western Front.
Close to where the herd were grazing was a Chinese garden, which included a set of rocks forming a stylised tortoise shape. (I think an imagination helps.)
This bit of street art was found walking back to the park to eat a rather good pie - plain, but very tasty rated 8.5. The duck image reminds me of Leunig/
This work was outside the Council Chambers, on our way back to the carpark.
We then rolled the car back down the road to 505: a pleasantly uneventful drive.
