Craft and Arts

We went into the CBD on 15 January to check out a couple of exhibitions and go to a concert in St Paul's Cathedral.  The places visited are numbered in this map, in the order we visited them.

We began (1) at the Craft Victoria Gallery.  A wonderful cavern of excellent craft work, most of which is for sale, some apparently at prices I could handle although I didn't get to specifics.

This is all ceramic.
Display shelving.

Some major items out of the shelves.

They had very quiet music playing which I was told was A_X by Dean Blunt.  A lesson for the Cricket people, in terms of volume, musical quality and content.

We moved along Flinders Lane to find the Outsiders exhibition wasn't yet open.  However it is next to Hosier Lane (2) which was very active with onlookers.
A view into Rutledge Lane (3): not sure I'd go in there after dark.
Back to the bottom of Hosier where the guy in the centre (leaning back) was leading a walk.  Also happy to talk to kibitzers such as me!
This is the middle of Rutledge.
A close up of the big work.  The tour leader told me that most of the high stuff was done by abseiling although some used scaffolding.  He said that most activity there now was "spray and dash" at ground level.
Nice to see the Special Ks mentioned in this environment!
This was abseiled - the tour guy called it "falling man".
Only looking at the image did I notice that the shoes have names on the soles, possibly making them art rather than boganicity.  Certainly an alternative to tagging.
The wall in these images is the building (4) hosting the Outsiders exhibition.  The background to the show is here.  The images are a small part of the exhibition.  The major work here is by Adnate (I have no idea who did the window),
Thunderbolts Way, Tom Civil, working on a car bonnet.
"For anybody" by C215: stencil on cardboard.
Zoom in to read these next 2!

Hawai'i III by Rone and Phibbs.  Commissioned when the artists needed some money to go to a street art festival in Honolulu!
There was a room of Banksys.  He does take the piss a bit.
I suggested to one of the very helpful staff that they should mount this out the front next week on Inauguration Day.  She took the point, but thought there might be some insurance issues!
This rotated slowly as a mirror ball!
The title is Goldfish!  Peered at through a small hole!
The artists got busy in this room.  Their signatures are visible behind the second panel.
I can't remember who this is!
I had a conversation with Sandra (half of Sandrew) who commented that there is a Banksy at the bottom of AC/DC Lane (5) so we went to check it out.  It seem that quite a bit of the work there had been removed (including a depiction of Bon Scott).  This was left at the end of the Lane.
I wondered if ths was the Banksy but it isn't.
Our last stop was the Cathedral ...

For a piano recital.  It was OK but a bit bland.
