Art down the road
I saw this (I suspect paywalled) article in the Age last week and recognised the owners of the property as the couple who set up the "Outsider" exhibition (see also the last section of this post) in Flinders Lane a year or so ago. It turned out the house was open for inspection on 16 May so I wandered 2km down to (upper) St Kilda to check it out.
As I left Sandra was sitting on a neighbour's wall so I wished her luck with the sale, and we had a very pleasant (as always) conversation. She commented that they had owned the house for 38 years and before that it had been a Buddhist ashram for 40 years. The Buddhists had a philosophy of never turning anyone away so Sandra and Andrew found people knocking on the door (or climbing the trees) for several years until the change of ownership became fully known in that community.
A street view of the house and the agent's sign.
In the back yard a wall has been enhanced by these eyes painted by Rone one of the bigger names in the street art world.A view from the 1st floor of the stables and surrounding rooves.
An image by Adnate (another big name).
Some ofthe works on the walls express opinions!
I don't know the name of the artist who painted the Dalai Lama.
Nor who did this work.
This covers most of the wall in the meals area. It is by Kid Zoom. who is a tad hard to track down on line, but the linked page gives an idea.
Not Leunig but might be a homage to him?
Fun with a piano just inside the front door.
I think the artist's name is Dlux who seems to be quite important as a street artist!
Not strictly speaking art but this interested me. Turns out that Andrew was a leading player for the Beaumaris Club in the 1960s.
